Parihaka Vocabulary

Kia Ora Everyone,

I and my class have started on some vocabulary words
Confiscate
Te Whiti
Tohu
Peaceful Protest
Te Raukura
I think to confiscate means taking away like the pakeha confiscated Maori land. Just like the Pakeha had promised to keep giving the Maori their land but had confiscated their land in Taranaki.

Te Whiti is involved with Parihaka because he was fighting against the government. Te Whiti and Tohu were arrested for 16 months in the South Island and was released to continue their protests

Tohu was involved with Parihaka because he led the peaceful resistance movement in 1881.
Peaceful Protest is where a protest went well like the Women's Suffrage that happened years after Parihaka had ended.

Te Raukura Feather is the white albatross feather which is a sign of peace for which the Parihaka was trying to associate with the Pakeha

Te Whare Tapa Wha

 Hello Everyone,

I am going to ask some questions about my Wharenui:)

Had you heard about Te Whare Tapa Wha before? I have only heard of it once.

What are the 4 dimensions that make up the where? Taha Whanau/Whenua/Taha Tinana/Taha Wairua

Why do you think the model looks like a Wharenui(House)? I think it looks like a house so we can honor our ancestors who used to live there before us.

Why do we need to take care of our well-being? So we can be healthy and have a great life in the future.

Bacteria

Helooooo Everyone,

Today in my Science class were learning about bacteria. Bacteria could be in your insides within your cells in your body and it makes up 90% of cells in us. Bacteria can be very critical because RSVP is now affecting everybody including our cute little babies unfortunately my little baby cousin has caught the disorder.
Feeding:1.They need to spit on the food to eat or digest it. 2. They need to eat rotten food. 3. They do not have a digestive system
Reproduction: 1.Bacteria do not need a male or female. 2. They need to split in order to survive. 3. When they split they are identical to their mothers.
Excretion: 1. Bacteria develop toxins inside the Bacteria. 2.Bacteria gets rid of toxin through the cell wall. 3. They must excrete the toxin or they would die.
Breathing 1. Bacteria breathe in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. 2. Bacteria can breathe even when there is no oxygen. 3. When Bacteria make things rot they produce heat.

Kate Sheppard Timeline of the Womens Suffarge!!!

 Hellooo!

How are you guys going?

So for a while, I and my reading group have been learning about Women's Suffrage and I made a timeline for everything that Kate Sheppard did for New Zealand Women

Here is my timeline

I hope you enjoy and by the way, Kate Sheppard is amazing without her we Women wouldn't even be able to vote so
Thank you Kate Sheppard for everything you did for us #Girls rule the world

The Womens Suffarge Petiton

 Hello Everyone!

What year did the Maori men get the vote?1860's

Why did most people think women should not vote? I think it's because men used to think that women could barely do anything all they could do was cooking, cleaning and looking after the children at home. So they thought they could only let men do the politics and elections and protests.

What does the phrase drinking their wages mean? It means drinking alcohol and drugs and getting rid of their stress with drinking alcohol

How did the WCTU help the poor? It was able for women to get jobs and to finally get a house for their families

What was the main form of Protest that Women used to change the law? Starting a Petition for Women and Men to sign to let women to be able to vote.

Why is Kate Sheppard on the NZ 10$ note? She is New Zealand's pride in being she was the first woman to give the country the will for Women to vote in 1893

The Elements of Drama:FARTS

Hello Everyone!

Me and my drama class are learning about a character of our choice and I chose Jason Dean is the main male antagonist and the true main antagonist in the cult classic film Heathers he falls in love with Veronica but Veronica ends up tricking J.D into thinking that she killed herself but then he finally attempts to blow up the school but then killing himself with the bomb he tried to use to blow up the school.  Halfway at the end of the movie his sentence was "All I wanted was to be loved" but at the start of the movie he was watching Veronica and teasing her but then the next day Veronica went up to J.D and was talking to him and on that same day Veronica and Heather Chandler were going to a college party and as the girls were at the gas station as Veronica was inside J.D shows up and buys her a Slushie and right after that scene had happened Veronica was so sick she had vomited and had asked Heather to go back but unfortunately Heather was too drunk to figure out she needed to leave so when Veronica was home J.D went to Veronica's house and stuck his head through her window. The next day J.D plans to kill Heather Chandler with dishwashing liquid.

All About Me!

Hello Everyone!

So today we have been learning with our Cybersmart again and I and my class did this where we search for some things on Google and then we used a tool to help us search better for images and we did an image little research and here is my all about me!

look how BeAtUiFuL I look!

So I also have a question I will be answering

Why is it important to use Google Images with permission only? So why I think it is important is because well if you grab an image and you basically copyrighted it, if you take images that aren't allowed for permission you might need to pay for that image maybe the person that made it might put it on the internet for money or it could lead to a virus or a hacker could get into your Chromebook and steal your information and to where you live.

The Mohawk Book

 Hello Everyone! How are you?

Why do you think Leo wanted a mohawk hairstyle for his first day at Intermediate? I think that Leo wanted that haircut because he thought it was really cool and he wanted a fresh new start maybe wanted to stand out in his new school because wasn't popular nor cool in his last school.

How did the other kids react? They weren't being very nice about what they were saying to Leo they said that he didn't look very cool and his friends weren't saying or being very nice to him about his new hairstyle.

Why did they react that way? Maybe because they liked his normal hairstyle or they just didn't like the sight of it or just that they wanted the same haircut but couldn't afford one.

How did Matua Glen react to Leo's Mohawk? He thought about Leos's hair when he went to talk to him when the bell rang and then Matua Glen gave Leo 2 websites to start reading one about a person with a Mohawk and one with Protests with people who wore Mohawks.

What were some examples from the website from Matua Glen who had the Mohawk hairstyle in history? That others before him had Mohawks stood proud with their cool haircut and didn't care about what others cared.

Besides the hairstyle, How could someone protest through their appearance? It could be their Gender for those LGBTQ+ people Black people and white people short or tall people.

Stand Up Follow Up Activites

Hello Everyone,

So I started on this activity and I have to finish it off and it's about Protests and Strikes so here's my work

1.What is the name of the law that ensures we have a right to Protest in Nz? The Humans Act Right 1993

2.When did the Soldiers invade Parihaka? 5 November 1881

3.How many Women signed the Women's Suffrage Petition? 31,872

4.What is New Zealand's most famous Hikoi? In 1975 Māori land marched the length of the North Island led by Dame Whina Cooper.

What do these words mean from Page 10 and 11
-Suffrage- Suffrage means an urge to say something involving voting

-Union-Coming together in one circle.

-Watersider-A person who works on a wharf

Choose one of the Protests from the article and summarise it in your own words. Ask who what when where and how? I chose the Woman's suffrage and Kate Sheppard tried to protest against women voting in 1893 in New Zealand and she kept on Protesting and now to this day all women can vote

When you read this article, what does it remind you of? It reminds me that women aren't different from men there all the same (White, Black, Skinny, Fat, Tall, or short there all still the same.

Have you ever seen or been involved in a Protest? No, I have never been in a Protest and I see a lot of Protests on the news.

Understand what Protests that have happened in Nz

 Hello Everyone!

How's it going? One of the things that happened was the woman suffrage and the Nurses and Doctors, Teachers and Farmers went on Strike and Protested against how much they were getting paid. Teachers give kids education and teach them different knowledge each day and the kids end up going off in life getting more jobs and paying taxes and then there's the Nurses and Doctors they save lives every day and help others and then there's the Farmer they grow the food which comes fresh and since the floods happened all their crops were destroyed and they went on Strike and protest saying 'NO FARMERS NO FOOD!' they work day and night to give food to everyone.

OREO Opinion Reason Example Opinion.

 Hello Everyone,

For a whole week, we have been learning about an OREO statement so here is my set of paragraphs

I think that some want to be able to use phones in Yr 7-9. It's not really fair if we can't use them, because some Yr 7-9’s want to be able to use their phones at intervals and lunches to play games. For example, a Year 8 wants to use his phone during lunch to text his mom to tell her his game is today. Some Year 7, 8, and 9 want to be able to use their phones in intervals and lunches. It would be really fun if we could use our phones any time and if we use our phones more we could maybe be relaxed at lunch if something has happened and we can just focus on our work if we could just listen to music when we are in class. I think we should be able to use our phones during school at intervals and on lunches. Thank you for reading my blog post. Please leave me some feedback

Should Yr 7-8 be aloud to use there phones.

 Hello Everyone,

I think that Yr 7-8 should be allowed to use their phones during lunch just say if your game is cancelled and your parents were gonna come you got to call them and say you aren't playing or if you need a ride home from school and we could listen to music if like we get mad or upset we can relax and just settle down for the next class or just play games and just focus on ourselves. Thank you for reading my blog post. Please leave me some feedback.

Do CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices

 Hey everyone,

Do CARR stamps encourage students to make positive choices? I disagree not everyone in Hornby High School get encouraged to make positive choices if they get a CARR stamp because it's not that impressive to some people and not many people even want CARR cards it depends on their mood most people just try their best to apply themselves to there work like so, say 'Lila' doesn't care about CARR cards she just wants to work hard to get a job when she's older but she always gets CARR stamps even though she doesn't want them she likes to keep being in the highest group of her class so when she is much older she can help her family. I think that CARR card stamps don't encourage other students to make positive choices. Thank you for reading my blog post. Please leave me some feedback

Students should not have to wear school uniform? Do you agree or diasgree

Hello Everyone,

My opinion is on both of them I think we should wear a uniform and not wear uniform because we could wear our own jerseys we have at home or beanies so then we wouldn't get cold especially for those people who don't have enough money for those things but I also think its a good thing to wear a uniform so then people who don't have many clothes at home can wear that to school and I also think its a bad idea to wear mufti all the time people could just feel uncomfortable with the way they are and maybe they like there uniform(And you all amazing the way you are).

Week 9 Music's Class Blog

 Hello Everyone,

We have been learning about rock and my teacher has informed us to make a blog about it and ask some questions so here they are

What is Genre? Is a conventional category that does identify a set of music that belongs to a shared tradition and or a set of conventions.

What are the Genres we have learned this week? Rock

Explain what your favorite genre is and why? Rock because I like how you can express your emotions out by banging on drums or strumming a guitar.

Share a song from this Genre. I like Now or Never from Julie and the Phantoms its a cool song with only drums and guitars and a bass.

What is a ochestra?

Hey Everyone,

So last week we started working on what orchestras and we need to figure out what an orchestra is so basically  what an orchestra is a bunch of stringed and woodwind instruments such as Violins and cellos flutes and trombones and tubas are put together with a conductor to be in a big group having to wave a little stick around to help the other performers concentrate and keep the Beat and Rhythm, I do have some questions to show and answer

How do they seat instruments? Strings go in the first seating and after on the second seating is woodwind and then brass.

What instruments are included? Violin, Cello, Flute, Harp, Viola,

Who is the most important member of the orchestra? Violin

What is the biggest group of instruments? Tuba and other Woodwind instruments

Do we have any orchestras? Up in Auckland, we have an Orchestra called the Auckland Philharmonia and it serves the country's largest most vibrant city with a comprehensive program of concerts and education and outreach activities

It is important that Year 7-8 do Friday Sport. Do you agree if disagree?

 Hello Everyone,

We are back with more of our do now blog posts so, I agree that it is important that Year 7-8 do sport because some Year 7-8's need to do sport because when they head to Year 9 it helps get them sorted and because not much Year 7-8's have P.E in a week so they need some exercise if some don't do club sports so say if you go to a school and you don't get P.E at all you need a little exercise well I believe that all children in schools should do some sport.

Is Icecream better then cake? Do you disagree or agree

 Hello Everyone,

The real question is: Is Icecream better than Cake? I think no Icecream is not better than Cake is much much better because it is really yum in my opinion Icecream isn't better because Icecream can make your brain freeze up and it can melt in the sun but its also good on a good hot sunny day but Cake is the one I like the most because it doesn't make my brain freeze and it's really yum.

Cats are better than dogs.. Do you agree or disagree?

 Good Morning Everyone

Today we started working on different work and were doing Persuade Writing and now we have to make a blog post on if Cats are better than dogs.. Do you agree or disagree? This weeks blog reflection

 Hello Everyone,

So today we have to make a blog post about reflection on what we did last week

Introduce what you were learning and working on this week in Te Ao Whanui. So this week in Te Ao Whanui me and my group were learning about information about Bungee Jumping

Reflect on a time you know you read the instructions carefully and how you know. I was reading the book with Miss Birtch and my reading group and we were asking questions after.

Reflect on a time when you completed your work to your personal best this week. I completed my Cars blog post on the questions.

Reflect on a time when you were a self-manager. When I was working on my own and I finished my blog post instead of talking to friends

Conclude your post with a final comment or question to your reader

Can you be able to self-manage?

What Music is?

Hello Everyone,

So this week in my music class we made a song on our own with any music equipment and I made three songs and we also have to make this blog post about what Music is and what i feel about it
so, unfortunately, I do not know how to show my songs so I am deeply sorry but I can tell you what Music is and what it makes me feel
so what I think Music is I think that it is a soothing set of sound something to help people calm down and whenever I'm mad I will listen to music and it calms me because when I listen to music I listen to what everyone else is going through and it just calms me down when I know that other people are going through different stuff than me

Music

 Hello Everyone,

In my class, for over 3 weeks we have been learning about different types of instruments and these we used recorders and ukeleles and we have to make a blog post about them and these are the questions

What is a String instrument? A String instrument is a base of string that is used to vibrate a set of sounds to be used for music.

What are the parts of a ukulele? A Ukulele has 4 strings and is a little bit tiny from a guitar

How do you play a string instrument? When it comes to String instruments it is mainly meant for using hands or for exactly a guitar you can use your hands or a guitar pick and a ukulele

Share one thing that you learned this week? I learned that ukuleles have 4 strings and I learned about recorders that you need to breathe in a recorder really slowly

100 Words Blog Challenge

 Hello Everyone,

So in my class, we have been learning about intentions and we have to choose an invention back in the day and make a 100-word challenge about them and we have to write about them and why we can live without them

and here is my 100-word challenge

I don't think I can live without a Phonograph because it was the first world recorder I like to use recordings to help me when I'm going through a certain situation that I can't talk to anyone about the current situation that is happening and I can listen to the recording I did in 5 years or more and see how well I have changed since then and reflect on how much I fixed myself and I think that a Phonograph can help others that have disorders or sickness and they wanna leave a note for there families to read

This is a phonograph for those who don't know what it is

What do I think Music is?

Hello Everyone,

So today and for the first week of school for Term 2 so in my Hurumanu class we have Music and for a while, we have been learning about genre's and beats and rhythm so I think music is something about expressing yourself and relax if you have had a bad day so that you can cope with your going like anxiety or depression music is meant to help that are going through and to help people with relationship problems.

Phonograph

Hello, my amazing readers,

In my class, we have been learning about some words and then recreating them so we had some options on the words

Computer
Stone Tools
Photograph
Electricity
Bessemer Furnace
Celluloid
Airplane
Telephone
Phonograph
Television

those were our options for the words so I chose Phonograph because it means the first record player and well the reason I chose it was because people that have trouble in their lives and people that have anxiety or depression or any other disorders the can record themselves and then listen in 4 years time they can reflect on what happened and see how well they have grown.

Jacinda Arden

Hi Everyone,

It has been a little while and we have been learning about some politics and we read some articles about some of our politicians here in Nz the person that we read about in the article was our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. From what I had read about Jacinda Ardern is that back when she was 17 she had gotten herself involved with politics since she was 17 she has worked for some famous politicians. She was most resilient for when she ran in 2008 as for Labours candidate for MP of the Waikato district and that she had lost 13,000 votes and then in 2011 she ran in Auckland Central but this time she only lost by 717 votes after that then in 2014 she lost again in Auckland by 600 votes but after a few times of losing in 2017 she won and she was running unopposed. That is most of the things that I had read from the article
I will give the link for you guys to have a look
and that's the article I hope you enjoy reading that article.

Hurumanu 1 The Longest Walk

Hi Everyone I hope you all had a great sleep,

In my hurumanu class for a couple of weeks, we have some reading groups they are Superman, Ironman, Spiderman and Batman the one that I'm in the is Batman and for the Batman group we have been learning about this book called The Longest walk and me and my friend Wiari are doing bingo and I would like to share with you the bingo that we have been doing.
so that's our bingo but we have to choose 3 things out of it so I needed to choose some and I chose 1.Vocabulary  2.Opinion  3.Main Ideas

so let's get started. The vocabulary words are the ones that I do not know the meaning of so I have to research them all.
1. Vocabulary.
Adventurous, Being brave in the worst situation.
Pitch, in climbing something that is crossed by other people.
Mountaineer,   Some people that climb very high on some dangerous mountains.
Descend, To go down or up a mountain or slope.

2.Opinion
I think that the book is about growing and trying your best to do something that you could never do.

3. Main Ideas

That a family of 4 reached the bottom of New Zealand. They tried their best at climbing and walking all that way. They went and re-did after they used a vehicle.
